J S @Strilnihkov Jul 20 Watching this I kept seeing flashbacks to Stephen King's Firestarter (version 1) with a baby Drew Barrymore and a zombified George C. Scott trying to be an Indian—the same basic plot too: Evil Govt. 'Agency' gave these people super mind powers in which they can 'push' people's minds to make them do stuff. Same Hunk, Babe, and Squirt (Who has the greatest powers) trying to hide from The Agency and various slimy mobsters. What? Couldn't they come up with a better plot than that with the $10 million they got to make this? I could have come up with something more original! My cat could have come up with something more original. The plot is muddled (sometimes running for their lives, other times sitting around bored and waiting for some MacGuffin to saunter by. Tropes about Hong Kong and Asians abound, largely unchanged since the days of Charlie Chan. The story feels messy and rushed, and it is hard to stay invested when the plot keeps jumping around without much payoff. The characters are not very memorable, and the performances could not make up for how thin the writing feels. Even the action scenes, which should have been the highlight, come across as more confusing than exciting. I also thought the world-building had a lot of potential, but the film does not do enough with it. Overall, Push feels like a missed opportunity that looks better on paper than it does on screen. Unfortunately, the film never fully lives up to that promise. While the idea of "pushing" and manipulating people is interesting, the story feels overly drawn out and cluttered with unnecessary back-and-forth. Several scenes rely too heavily on loud, chaotic energy that becomes more annoying than engaging, making it difficult to stay immersed. The cast does a solid job, with Dakota Fanning standing out and Evans delivering a decent performance. However, their efforts cannot save a screenplay that feels unfocused and exhausting. The plot jumps around too much, creating confusion instead of tension. Direction is serviceable, but excessive editing and choppy transitions weaken the flow.
