Kat Stratford is beautiful, smart and quite abrasive to most of her fellow teens, meaning that she doesn't attract many boys. Unfortunately for her younger sister, Bianca, house rules say that she can't date until Kat has a boyfriend, so strings are pulled to set the dour damsel up for a romance. Soon Kat crosses paths with handsome new arrival Patrick Verona. Kat may let her guard down enough to fall for the effortlessly charming Patrick.

In terms of Shakespearean scholarship, "10 Things," directed with more energy than style by Gil Junger, may be but a footnote. But when they write the teen-flick book, this goes to the front of the class.

Who knew that Shakespeare dude could be so entertaining? References to him abound in this messy but enjoyable movie right down to the use of a remake of Nick Lowe's "Cruel to Be Kind." But you don't have to be a fan of the Bard to like this affable film.

As a romantic comedy, the film feels timeless. The characters convincingly portray the innocence of high school life, and Kat’s growth throughout the story is both realistic and relatable from the perspective of someone who has been her age before.

10 things I hate about you defines this cliche genere of movies. Youll laugh a little, maybe say "aww," but you definitely won’t think and you definitely won’t think about it after. This movie tries to be quirky and ends up just being plain weird and unlikeable, just like its characters. No one grows; no one matures. Characters simply find other characters that simply except their terrible personalities. The characters just feel off-beat and fake. It’s good acting but the characters aren’t believable and the actions they choose don’t make sense. If you’re lucky enough to have read this, don’t watch 10 things I hate about you, but if you’re looking for a quirky, hilarious, and somehow compelling and believable movie, watch Napoleon Dynamite.
