Wealthy lawyer Newland Archer (Daniel Day-Lewis) is engaged to sweet socialite May Welland (Winona Ryder) in the 1870s New York. On the surface, it is a perfect match. But when May's beautiful cousin Countess Ellen Olenska (Michelle Pfeiffer), who is estranged from her brutish husband, arrives in town, Newland begins to question the meaning of passion and love as he desperately pursues a relationship with Ellen, even though she has been made a social outcast by Archer's peers.

Scorsese has made 42 features but is mostly known for his six movies about organized crime. With “Age,” Scorsese stepped far out of his comfort zone and delivered one of the finest films, not only of his career, but from anyone over the last 50 years.

I always watch The Age of Innocence when it’s on. Newland is engaged to May and must abide by the strict rules of upper class society in the 1870. Newland is captivated by Mays Cousin Ellen who is separated from her Husband and seeking a Divorce. They both fall deeply in love "affair of the heart" that will never be. A beautiful adaption of the Novel by Edith Wharton. Great performances, costumes and details of the era…beautiful film by Martin Scorcese.

The Age of Innocence is a beautifully crafted drama that absolutely deserves to be considered A-tier cinema. The film is elegant, emotionally layered, and incredibly well-directed, creating a story that feels both intimate and grand at the same time. The performances are outstanding across the board, with the cast bringing a lot of subtle emotion and restraint to their roles. Instead of relying on loud drama, the film builds tension through expressions, conversations, and atmosphere, which makes everything feel more authentic. Visually, the movie is stunning. The costumes, cinematography, and detailed period setting all come together to create a rich and immersive experience. Every frame feels carefully designed without becoming distracting. Overall, The Age of Innocence is a smart, mature, and emotionally powerful film that stays with you after it ends. It’s a perfect example of storytelling done with patience and care. I’d rate it a 9/10.
