Ron S @SotaFilms 3d A horror movie that doesn’t instill fear? Yeah, that’s this film. The script deserved better, but still lacks a powerful story or critique. The acting was campy and/or mediocre, detracting from the seriousness of the first Alien installment, with the sole exception of Weaver’s consistently solid work. You’d expect better with this cast, but Jeunet emphasized look and feel over performances, and it shows. Which might be okay in a horror film if the look and feel actually built tension instead of a nagging question about what happened to soap, lights, and color in the future. The biggest failing of the picture, though, is the lameness of the monsters. The Xenomorphs have been getting less worrisome over the franchise, so I get adding something new, but the hybrid was…uninspired. It just looks like ET didn’t handle puberty well and its emo ending was overly contrived. The directing, writing, casting, performance, dialogue, creatures design, practical effects, and storytelling are horrible. It lacks the horror and suspense expected of an alien movie. This movie mostly looks good, but it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy better than those turds that are "Promehteus" and "Covenant", ESPECIALLY better than that last one mentioned.
