Luis M @RT11088085 Oct 24 Only a FOOL will turn a cool sci-fi concept like alternate dimensions and turn it into a "soap Opera" that you can watch at midday on open TV.... there are a LOT of scientific problems with this idea such as how the gravitational forces would create earthquakes in both earths, or how at that distance Any radio telescope observatory could listen easily to all their transmissions, or how it got into our orbit so easily (how did it decelerate??) but the problem I have is not scientific but that they didn't explore this concepts and instead they made it into some BS drama!! (they pulled the same crap with a movie about time travel called "Kate&Leopold" with Meg Ryan, making it a romantic comedy)... however, it was written by the very same Actress Brit Marling!! I think I'll watch The Accountant again just to wipe this movie from my memory. It's almost as if they started off with a sci-fi movie, but got so hung-up on the relationship aspect of the story that halfway through they changed their minds about what kind of movie they were making. The fact that there's a second Earth within traveling distance of ours, another Earth that the movie is literally named after, that somehow has almost nothing to do with the plot, makes for a confusing and disappointing film. The main character is played by one of the co-writers, and she does a great job. A conceptual sci-fi that explores the ‘what if’ of the existence of another Earth, through a woman’s attempt to find redemption following a tragic and unforgivable mistake. The poignancy of the impact of tragedy on the main characters is made bearable by the possibility that the mysterious ‘other earth’ might somehow offer new hope. Marling’s work, as ever, is a wise and delicate balance of the paradoxes of existence.
