Critics Consensus

Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson make for well-matched comic foils, helping Central Intelligence overcome a script that coasts on their considerable chemistry.

Overall, Central Intelligence isn't 48 Hours... However, if you enjoy Hart's stand-up comedy, and his other numerous flicks, then you'll probably enjoy this one as well.

This is a tongue-in-cheek buddy movie that's above average, but not too far above average.

Hart and Johnson got me to laugh, their antics just ridiculous enough to keep me entertained.

Unfortunately the film falls very flat. The jokes feel tired and it struggles to make an impact.

The artist formerly known as The Rock has long since proven that he has more natural acting chops than any other former muscleman-turned-thespian (sorry, Arnie), and he's absolutely riotous here.

Central Intelligence is a buddy comedy built on bad decisions, bruised egos, and the beautiful art of watching two idiots make everything worse. The Rock brings the muscle and the ridiculous charm, while the chemistry between him and Kevin Hart turns every exchange into a battle of insults and absurdity. The jokes hit, the action delivers, and the whole thing knows that sometimes friendship means dragging your buddy into a disaster he never signed up for. Big laughs, bigger explosions, and just enough heart to make the chaos count.

How this movie made me feel in one word: Upbeat. I prefer this version of The Rock to anything else he has done in the past decade. His goofy but sharpshooting Bob Stone was super entertaining. The film is incredibly dumb, but I had fun with it. There was a movie that came out in 2025 called Playdate. The plot is very similar, but this is done much better. Anytime you can get Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson together, you're in for a good time. Note: Fat CGI Dwayne Johnson will give me nightmares. Note 2: The poster with Hart and Johnson is one of the best taglines I've seen. Best Character: Bob Stone Best Quote: "Well, I sleep in it most nights, but it's clean now, totally good. Yeah!" - Bob Best Scene: The Jump Best Piece of Score: "Bob Stone's Acceptance Speech"

Better than it has any right to be. Look, don't get me wrong, the plot is dumb as a bag of rocks. Not much makes sense. The ending is not good. For a world ending spy thriller, the film majorly pulls its punches with PG violence - which is fine for the kids. And Hart and Johnson each have ONE character they can play, and they play it here... pretty darn well. Their chemistry is great, there are some hilarious scenes. Don't think too much and you will have a blast.
