Critics Consensus

Cookie Queens is as much an insightful inquiry into adolescence as it is a tour through a time-honored tradition, making for a documentary that's chock-full of feel-good crumbs.

“Cookie Queens,” a documentary following adorable children selling Girl Scout cookies, melts the heart, of course. But overly staged scenes and a narrative slighter than the thinnest of Thin Mints mean it takes a while to get there. Go to Full Review

Nahmias understands and spells out how race, economic realities, and other social and demographic factors can sadly come to define what success might look like in America. It’s all in there, in the direct aftertaste of this irresistibly sweet package. Go to Full Review

"Cookie Queens" is an adorable Girl Scouts documentary made with surprising honesty and more than a little bite. Go to Full Review

With Alysa Nahmias’ observational approach, the documentary feels like a family dramedy. These girls are smart. Any one of them could have sold me invisible magic beans. Very entertaining. Go to Full Review

It shows these girls as saleswomen and strivers, but first and foremost it shows them as little girls, finding fun, hope and opportunity through sugary treats. Go to Full Review

robert M 2h what a fun and inspiring movie, the kids were amazing. See more Grant 22h Excellent movie filled with positive messages along with a tale of caution. Great movie for both parents and kids. We need more movies like this in our theaters. See more Tom B 1d Charming "documentary" about a slice of Americana, from these perspectives of several charming young girl scouts. I highly recommend. See more Norma 1d Loved it 10 out of 10. Heartwarming and fun. ❤️ See more Marisa 2d I don't get it. I read the synopsis and thought this sweet, coming of age story is right up my alley. What I saw was not what I expected. First, kids don't talk like that, mini-adults in little bodies. Second. the values & principles of what (I thought) the Girl Scouts was about was not what I saw. Third, I was a Brownie & a Girl Scout, and This wasn't it. Very Disappointed. See more jesse v 3d i appreciate the sentiment and emotional story but it was just a weird time jump going from each kid's brief backstory to cookie business. I would love to see more of the logistical hoops each family had to go through to enter the troop. Also weird of kids just randomly entering shops and sports games to upsell cookies. The realism of this "documentary" (how people interact, time skips) gets more blurry as the film progresses. Some of the kids like Ara REALLY CARRY this movie with charm. Also weird of Olive to randomly change her mind in continuing to sell once the season got extended. The cinematography here is oddly FANTASTIC though. The biggest question is why is the Royal Family of England involved in this? Also rating dropped because of including Olive in the SAG-AFTRA guild protest: why????? See more Read all reviews
