Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the American dream. He has a good job, a beautiful house, great children and a beautiful wife, named Emily (Julianne Moore). Cal's seemingly perfect life unravels, however, when he learns that Emily has been unfaithful and wants a divorce. Over 40 and suddenly single, Cal is adrift in the fickle world of dating. Enter, Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling), a self-styled player who takes Cal under his wing and teaches him how to be a hit with the ladies.

This is such a great movie. So many different feels all throughout. You feel for and understand where each character is at. I love the character of Hannah's best friend, Liz. She is the inner voice in all of us.

I avoid this genre of film almost always but Steve Carell, Julianne Moore. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were enough of a reason to give a shot. Maybe I am over-grading because I generally revolt to rom-come but didn’t here - though Carell’s speech in Act III gave me hue cringy feelings -but this was a well produced, performed and directed movie that allowed me to shut my Mind off for a while. Well done.

I don’t usually love comedies, but Crazy, Stupid, Love. ended up being a really fun surprise. It avoids a lot of the exaggerated humor that can take me out of these kinds of movies, and the characters feel surprisingly genuine. The pacing is great and kept me invested the whole way through, and the climax is easily one of the funniest parts of the film. The performances are strong, the characters actually develop, and nothing feels too over-the-top. If you’re looking for a genuinely entertaining romantic comedy, this is an easy recommendation. 🍅 Fresh
