It’s flamboyantly mounted, has an expansive canvas with the rural Madurai landscape becoming a character itself. Go to Full Review

Dorothy is the work of a film-lover. That’s, perhaps, its biggest strength. But, by the end of the film, it also seems like its most glaring limitation. Go to Full Review

Dorothy is an audacious and tender exploration of masculinity and gender identity that becomes muddled just when its ideas matter most. Go to Full Review
Anna M.M. Vetticad The Economic Times (India) Oct 4, 2026
In treating a transgender person as a plot device and an element of suspense, while falling short on character development, Dorothy contributes in part to the very socio-cultural ‘othering’ that it purports to address... But it has its moments. Go to Full Review

While Dorothy is sure to irk transphobic, patriarchal, and casteist viewers, it will also frustrate LGBTQIA+ allies and intersectional feminists due to its reprehensible depictions. Go to Full Review

Art Oct 7, 2026 Walked out of the theatre with a heavy heart. See more Vimoshiny Murugan Sep 30, 2026 It was a great experience. See more Annamalai Sep 26, 2026 Story is intense and excellent view of acceptance from the audience.. Screenplay should have been better in the second half is my opinion See more Sheeba Sep 26, 2026 Such a beauty ♥️♥️ Best movie of 2026, must watch ♥️♥️ See more arvind S @Arvind100 5 days ago The best thing about the theatre I went to was hearing the amount of cheering this movie received. Somewhere this neutralised all the negative talk it was getting on social media. Rishikanth, who is riding high on the success of Modha Rathri delivers yet again as Subbu's best friend, who adopts the title of 'sakth mard' & later struggles to come to terms with his friend's secret. Sananth is the beating heart of this film, his Subbu character's struggles of living a lie is accompanied with such pain and he brings that to life with such ease. His transformation requires a review of its own. The one character who truly terrified me was Muthukumar's Whistle Veeraiya. Beware his whistle & his goats 🐐🐐🐐. Dorothy is not a movie that just fits into that LGBTQIA+ tag, it is a movie that highlights the biggest (and maybe the oldest) problem with human society - gender discrimination. If a movie set in the 90s can still be this relevant, then we have not improved as a society. See more murugaraj R @RT28143386 Oct 4, 2026 One can appreciate this movie if watched without having any preconceived idea about it. In the beginning, two young boys while watching a kissing scene in a movie, one tells the other to watch and learn so that they can kiss their wives after marriage. This will happen in the climax but not like the way they thought. (A dialogue in Karthik Subburaj's previous movie XX : what you expect to happen will happen but not like the way you thought.) That's destiny. The music of Raja has played a great role in convincing the audience to accept the end. Overall, it was a different experience watching this movie. See more Read all reviews
