Critics Consensus

The scenery is nice to look at, and Julia Roberts is as luminous as ever, but without the spiritual and emotional weight of the book that inspired it, Eat Pray Love is too shallow to resonate.

Without discounting the importance of Gilbert's decision... it can't be removed from its context: it's a story about choosing self over prescribed generic femininity, a world of your own making over the deeply patriarchal American upper-middle class.

An engaging but deliberate chick flick at times, Eat, Pray, Love has the quintessential chick flick star at the helm with Roberts, who played the role beautifully...

A tiresome, humourless, lifeless, overlong dirge in which the lofty pretention to say something deep about the quest for self and the female condition all gets blown away by an insipid, off-the-shelf romantic-movie ending.

There’s some love along the way, and a little bit of praying, but it’s the “Eat” in the title that gets the most attention, like a neon sign in the window of an all-night diner.

Unlike the original source, Eat Pray Love presents a flawless caricature that's on an idyllic, hiccup-free trip in a world full of kind people who are happy to be at the mercy of this lost American tourist. [Full review in Spanish]

Terrible watch, I find myself wondering if I’m the only one who felt complete impartial while watching the film. It didn’t make me feel anything, the scenery was beautiful but every interaction between any actor felt flat

I watched the 2010 movie Eat Pray Love in 2026 for the first time. I knew what the story was about and had always thought it was about a way of handling a broken marriage that was unrealistic as it was available only to the rich. I disliked it from the start, it just got worse, and I didn't finish it. I always agree with Rotten Tomatoes and, once again, they called itl

Eat Pray Love is one of those stories that stays with you long after you finish it. It is honest, emotional, funny, and deeply inspiring. I loved the friendships, self-discovery, and even the heartbreak along the way. The journey through Italy, India, and Bali was beautiful and made me feel like I was traveling right alongside her. What I appreciated most was how real everything felt. The author does not pretend to have all the answers. Instead, she shares her struggles, growth, and little moments of joy in a way that is relatable and comforting. There were so many moments where I felt like I could see parts of my own life in hers — the confusion, hope, pain, and desire to find yourself again. This story made me laugh, reflect, and even tear up a little. It is the perfect reminder that it is never too late to start over, heal, and create a life that feels true to you.

Just finished watching Eat Pray Love, and it felt like a canvas painted with the many colors of life and emotion. Julia Roberts was truly amazing. Despite the low reviews, this movie clearly isn’t meant for everyone—and that’s okay. A must-watch if you love reading books, listening to music, watching sunsets, and giving yourself a soothing, calm, and thoughtful treat.
