In a delightfully horrifying way. Cast is solid, story is solid even with its 90s cheese but that just adds to the vibe. Still holds up in 2025, a must watch for the horror genre. If Sci-fi and Lovecraft aren't your thing, you won't like it at all. Frankly, most of the attempts to turn Lovecraft's stories into film haven't been all that successful. This movie is different. It's not one of Lovecraft's stories but it does have a Lovecraftian theme and it's brilliant. BTW, due to the reviews of professional critics, I didn't watch the movie for a long time. One night I had nothing to watch so I turned it on. Great fun! Never trust the critics. Many of them base their reviews on some highbrow idea of what art is. Some of us are less interested in "art" and more interested in being entertained. Event Horizon reminds me of another horror movie Sam Neill starred in that the critics panned, "Possession (1981)." Initially the critics hated it. It was later on that we realized the critics were wrong. The film was awesome and now the critics rate it at 87% approval. Just goes to show, critics can be wrong.
