BobGenius 12 hrs ago It was long like a classical game and good effort to make chess not boring like chess freestyle / 960. A nice look into some behind the scenes of the filmmakers and what chess personalities allowed. A worthy effort to make chess marketable to the global sheep. See more Nicole 1 day ago Terrific suspense, intriguing characters, fabulous musical score! See more R T @RT18721147 13 hrs ago I appreciated the deep dive behind the scenes. Just like Hikaru Nakamura said chess can be boring. It is the drama between matches that is enticing to watch. This movie captured so much of it. I enjoyed all of the moving pieces to make a tournament and industry work was quite riveting. I enjoyed the drama, the suspense and getting to know the characters behind the game. See more Yulia K @RT30099226 1 day ago The documentary style movie really dove into the insights about the grandmasters, especially from Wesley So's perspective. The movie addresses the chess drama and the inclusion of Hans Niemann's chess match clips revealed the various personalities there are of the chess players in a very humorous way. By calling out on the stereotypes and documenting Magnus Carlsen's freestyle vision I think the producers did a good job of elevating the chess world onto the big screen. However, I would have been interested in seeing Magnus Carlsen's instability in support of Jan Henric's ideas giving opportunity to Wesley So as a replacement, and an ending on that note. Otherwise it is a bit open, no food for thought. See more Chase L @RT62590826 1 day ago Queen's Gambit is it's own thing. Just as Pawn Sacrifice, Queen of Katwe, The Dark Horse, Bobby Fischer Against the World, etc… are their own islands of narratives. What stories then remain untold after those were shared? What stones were left unturned? Would the chess community support a Brad Pit F1 level movie and its relative production value? Or will it be intensely fickle and unsupportive? I can speak from the unique perspective as someone who’s watched an intense amount of documentaries, movies, has edited feature film, and has made a living within the industry. The pacing, editing, shot composition, tension, focus, and narratives of this film are immaculate. The explored story lines are a deep dive into all those who make chess happen. On the cutting edge of decisions and ideas that shape a billion dollar industry. With an invitation into all of it’s guts, glory, and unanswered questions. A 10/10 cinematic experience and incredible window into the modern world of chess. See more Read all reviews
