Blake- N @PBSAniDom May 30 Guys and Dolls is another amazing musical film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer that continues to showcase why classic Hollywood musicals remain timeless. The production values are outstanding, and the film's energy never fades from beginning to end. The cast is excellent across the board. Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, and Vivian Blaine each bring charisma and personality to their roles, making every scene entertaining and memorable. Their performances help elevate the material beyond a typical musical. The songs are catchy, the choreography is lively, and the colorful presentation captures the charm of the era. The film blends humor, romance, and music in a way that feels effortless and engaging. Even decades later, Guys and Dolls remains a joy to watch. It is a classic MGM musical that delivers strong performances, great songs, and lasting entertainment. I rate it a 9/10. See more Mireille T @RT34033469 Aug 30 Fabulous adaptation of the broadway show Guys and Dolls. Watching Marlon Brando singing and being vulnerable touched me,he was adorable. All the actors ,singers ,dancers,and sets were Top.The director's baton pulled it all nice and tigh together.Great songs.!!! I did not mind the 2 and a half hours,i was transported and time flew by. When i think of all the work this must have taken,wish we had movies like that now. Chapeau!!!! See more Matthew T @Mattonio76 03/03/2025 Sinatra and Brando? Yep, that happened—back in 1955. Guys and Dolls brought the beloved stage musical to the big screen, packed with serious star power. Alongside them, the excellent Jean Simmons and Viviane Blaine round out the "dolls" side of the starring quartet. The musical numbers—aside from the dancing-girl sequences—are memorable and irresistibly fun to sing along with. Naturally, Sinatra is the standout vocalist, but Simmons and Blaine prove to be naturals, and Brando... well, he stays within the comfortable range the songs graciously allow. That said, he delivers one of the film’s best moments with Luck Be a Lady. But for me, Sinatra is the real treat. His short and sweet duet with Blaine, Sue Me, is a personal favorite. Interestingly, Brando plays, Sky Madison, the cool, confident savvy, bible quoting, gambler—the kind of role you’d expect Sinatra to land—while Sinatra instead takes on the part of Nathan Detroit, the nervous, desperate hood with a gambling addiction and a fear of commitment to his long-suffering fiancée, Adelaide. Brando and Simmons (Sarah Brown) may not be as entertaining as watching Sinatra playing the cad, but together they carry the weight of the film's narrative and share a compelling romance between the gambler and the prude with sharp dialogue and playful debates on reality morality and chemistry...yeah chemistry. It’s an excellent musical, a true “roller coaster of emotions,” and a hell—heck (sorry, Sister Sarah)—it’s a heck of a fun time. See more John S @RT40486670 12/28/2024 The music is a delight.
