Between the director’s evenhanded, unshowy treatment and his script’s contrastingly wild developments, it’s a real find for fans of inspired B-grade genre cinema. Go to Full Review

Nicholas V @Ndvale7 5d I’m new to the genre, but this is a great entry point for anyone trying to get into Yakuza crime or Kurosawa films in general. The symbolism rich filmography carries the film through some of the more confusing beats, and it all comes together in the end. See more 08/03/2009 This is a great film that in many ways touches on just what I expect to see in a gangster film. A lot of grittiness, a fast paced story and short duration give you a decent amount of excitement. Since sukiyaki western , however, Teriyuki just looks goofy no matter what he is doing. See more 01/04/2009 Another triumph for Kiyoshi Kurosawa. This is a highly overlooked film. Once again the idea of revenge is a simple one. Usually Kurosawa has some supernatural twist. Here the twist is simply one very deceptive and fascinating character. As one man seeks revenge for his daughter, his friend begins to take control of the situation. We then see him play mind games and even begin to twist the truth. His motives are unclear but it leads to an excellent ending. The whole film, like all revenge films, depicts violence in a negative light. Showing how it leads to more violence and more pain. No amount of revenge can put things right. Here the cinematography is once again grim but alluring. A short and deceptively complex film. Much like one of its main characters. See more 08/15/2008 I had a long day and was fairly tired when I watched this, so the meaning of the ending was kind of lost on me and I'm not sure what I was supposed to think, but otherwise it was a really good movie. Slow, deliberately paced, well shot. And made in a week, if I read correctly? WOW! See more Read all reviews
