Dare Rudd (John Wayne) and Dinkey (Syd Saylor) are two friends who love to gamble. Needing money and shelter, they travel to Montana to visit Rudd's cousin, Tom (John Mack Brown), who owns a successful cattle ranch. Dare quickly falls for Tom's girlfriend Judy (Marsha Hunt), who convinces Tom to give Dare a chance to prove himself by running a cattle drive. When he loses the herd in a high-stakes poker game, Dare joins forces with Tom and Dinkey to get the cattle back.

05/27/2021 Your basic Old School Hollywood Western written by Zane Grey and starring a young John Wayne. It passed the time. See more 03/06/2020 It was typical of westerns from the late '30s. It passed the time barely, I couldn't finish it. The only draw and it's one redeemable feature was that it was interesting to see John Wayne early in his career and before he was a big star. He was a little comical looking in those oversized hats typical to the era. His voice was unmistakable, even if his face was. See more 10/28/2019 Very good movie. Remember this is 1937. See more 02/12/2015 Initially released as "Born to the West", a pre-"Stagecoach" Wayne stars as an irresponsible young cowboy put in charge of a cattle drive by his cousin (Johnny Mack Brown). Wayne screws up, loses the money from the cattle in a crooked card game, and all sorts of shoot outs between Wayne, cattle rustlers and card cheats resolve the plot in time for Wayne to settle down with Marsha Hunt. It's all briskly paced and lots of fun if not exactly brilliant. Based on a Zane Grey novel.
