Maybe The Crooked Man will only appeal to hardcore Hellboy fans who want to see another adaptation of their favorite character, but it is also a very enjoyable riff on folk horror and The Evil Dead with some comic book flourishes.

This movie is badly paced, with bad dialogue, bad CGI and bad cinematography. It thinks It's smarter than the viewer while being more stupid. The setting is supposed to be modern times but there is no internet, phones, electricity or water and there are mentions to a recent war that looks like WWII. Hellboy is a non character, could be a normal person and the story wouldn't change at all. The characters have no development until they scream their feelings out of nowhere. This seems like a bad horror movie that got the Hellboy IP slapped on top. It falls back on the disrespectful trope that ugly country people are inherenty evil. It is weirdly pro-american, in the sense that a random nobody in the middle of nowhere is incredibly knowdlegeable about witches and that a rich setteler is this huge evil able to controll time itself. If it were a Supernatural episode, It'd be middeling to bad, but as a standalone movie ment to reboot the franchise, It's offensive.

As a long time Hellboy comics fan, I believe this film was very well made for its lower budget. Hellboy isn’t always about action and fancy fight scene but focuses a lot on story and creepy tales such as The Crooked Man. I hope they can add more stories like this into upcoming Hellboy Films.

Very well done for it's small budget. Does look a little YouTube-like at times, but stays on topic and gives a very interesting horror take on the character. Overall I still really liked it.

Im in love with hellboy (my biological father loved him so…). I love the Del Toro movies, i think the 219 one is a fun comedy (at times), and i love the Crooked man. It was a treat seeing it dive into the supernatural side of things while also still being “somewhat” funny.

I have watched all the Hellboys... this one, I truley enjoyed. Its better, less artificial. Like a good ol' classic, with a bit of creepy. Two thumbs up!!
