TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 5h Ice Cream Man (1995) feels like a missed opportunity to me. I watched the original because I wanted to understand what made this version different, especially after seeing the newer movie. Unfortunately, I found myself more frustrated than entertained. My biggest issue is that they made the Ice Cream Man talk. That decision takes away much of the character’s potential creep factor. Instead of being mysterious and unsettling, his voice makes him feel more goofy than frightening. I think keeping him silent would have created a much stronger horror presence. Ironically, I found the basic concept of him killing people and using them as part of the ice cream more disturbing than some of the supernatural elements in the newer version. There is something naturally creepy about taking something innocent, like an ice cream truck, and turning it into something horrifying. The lead performer was creepy good. Clint howard was perfect for this character. Great to see david naughton in a movie again. The violence and humor drive this to the finish line.
