Damien Sachs (Sacha Baron Cohen) seemingly has it all: money, power, and a never ending stream of casual flings. As he prepares to ascend to the role of CEO at a leading advertising agency, his life is turned upside down when he wakes up in his worst nightmare: a parallel world dominated by women. Where he once ruled the boardroom, he now finds himself humbled and going head-to-head with the newly fierce and fearless Alex Fox (Rosamund Pike). With the rules of engagement changed and Alex at the top of her game, the two boldly battle it out in a playful and satirical comedy about what happens when the script is flipped.

The destination of “Ladies First” might as well be on tracks. But Ms. Pike is terrific, as are Ms. Shaw, Mr. Dance and Mr. Baron Cohen, an agile comedian in a production that isn’t particularly taxing. Go to Full Review
Amber Dowling Globe and Mail May 26
Director Thea Sharrock presents a somewhat predictable but entirely cathartic take on what it really would look like if women ran the world, and it is fine companion viewing for Eléonore Pourriat’s French film I Am Not an Easy Man, on which it’s based. Go to Full Review

The gender politics, much like the French original, are bonkers and alarmingly retro. Go to Full Review

Ladies First is not only a waste of time but also undermines the actually important conversations about gender disparity that it could have done something to advance. Go to Full Review

Every single man needs to see this film. Rosamund Pike can do no wrong and absolutely nails this role. Go to Full Review

Ladies First is a lot of sharp edges that never find ripe fruit to cut into. Sexism at its most basic is skin deep, but films about It — comedic or not — shouldn’t be. Go to Full Review

Roger H @RT59505993 1h Not Oscar material, obviously, but a very watchable romcom and well acted by all the cast. To be honest, any film with Rosamund Pike is a good film. Some good gender-reversal jokes and a nice ending. A pleasant way to spend an evening. See more Donavin D @Hiyromedia 7h Ladies First is a comically low effort film made with a single idea that they milk puns out of instead of anything meaningful or worthwhile and they do it while being surprisingly unfunny despite an incredibly talented cast. Despite the trailer I thought maybe they would put real work into creating a world like this — it’s just testicular jokes y’all. Ultimately, it’s just not a good time. It has a premise that had potential, the reversal of men and women where women are the one in systemic control could have been interesting and I feel like we have the cast both talented and funny enough to pull this off in a way that was both entertaining and engaging but ultimately, its so much less than that. See more Matti S @RT84619259 8h Ofc alot of virings with no real girlfriends ( They are not your girl, you are their pet ) giving good reviews to a movie that I know for a fact will be a mediocre film but fun still to watch. I came to read the reviews only to see things like - and i quote - "My girlfriend made me watch this... she kept looking at my takes... i got good reviews" ( as a housepet ) Get some balls, losers. My girl and I am going to watch this and laugh at poorly made points, agitate each other, see eye to eye on things which do make a point. She is going to get upset of gender stereotyping of women, women who have stereotyped themselves to generalized sex traits that mimic generalized male gender traits, weak people with no soul want to emulate. Tantamount of weak men and women. Oh. We are going to laugh. These movies always do! Losers living in someone elses head, rather than their own. See more Dave C @RT09838700 13h A witty, sardonic play on the patriarchy and misogyny society is riddled with. Of course there's a large element to it that is tongue in cheek, but it's written well so as not to be overplayed or totally cheesy. Much better than I'd thought it would be, to be honest See more Violeta I @RT90462145 15h Meh, it was alright… I wouldn’t watch it again. See more Steph S. @SS1234 19h As a woman, I definitely approve!! See more Read all reviews
