A lonely, aging movie star named Bob Harris (Bill Murray) and a conflicted newlywed, Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), meet in Tokyo. Bob is there to film a Japanese whiskey commercial; Charlotte is accompanying her celebrity-photographer husband. Strangers in a foreign land, the two find escape, distraction and understanding amidst the bright Tokyo lights after a chance meeting in the quiet lull of the hotel bar. They form a bond that is as unlikely as it is heartfelt and meaningful.

Revisited for the first time in many years, writer-director Sofia Coppola's platonic romance remains beautiful and evocative. It captures sleeplessness, feeling lost in a foreign context, flirtation, and much else besides with an effortless grace. From the screenplay to the cinematography, and especially the performances of the two leads, the film's constituent parts combine with subtlety that belies the film's quiet power. Few of those involved have done better work.

Apesar do ritmo mais lento, Encontros e Desencontros entrega uma história sensível e reflexiva. As atuações são excelentes, a atmosfera é envolvente e o filme transmite emoções de forma natural. Pode não agradar quem busca uma narrativa mais dinâmica, mas é uma experiência que permanece na mente depois dos créditos,eu sinceramente recomendaria para várias pessoas,Bill realmente soube encorporar o personagem dele.

Synopsis
