Prior to his untimely death, Jackson was in the midst of preparing for a series of sold-out concerts that were scheduled to take place in London during the summer of 2009. Behind-the-scenes footage, filmed between March and June 2009, captures the pop superstar in intimate detail as he developed and rehearsed for the "This Is It" tour.

Critics Consensus

While it may not be the definitive concert film (or the insightful backstage look) some will hope for, Michael Jackson's This Is It packs more than enough entertainment value to live up to its ambitious title.

I think any fan of MJ’s will appreciate what "This Is It" offers – a glimpse of a Michael that I don’t think we ever really got to know, and the final steps of a genius, fully dedicated to his craft... Go to Full Review

There are some who will claim this documentary is ghoulish. I think haunting is a better word, as you fathom what the music world would have been like had he lived. Go to Full Review

This is a film designed to give fans one last chance to see the Jackson they knew and loved. And on that level, "This Is It" succeeds - showing that Jackson still had it, even in his final moments. Go to Full Review

Stefan P @RT20645640 1d This movie definitely captures how much of a Drug Addiction Michael had? His shity family blamed it on the doctor? ( after they ransacked his home for money and jewelry and who knows what else?! See more Mariane M @Maria_S 3d This gave me chills and an emotional rollercoaster ride. This is a farewell to a genius that the world might never be able to have again. Been a fan since I was a little girl and it’s one of my biggest dreams to watch him live but that won’t happen anymore. He left too soon but his music will be played forever and his legacy will is immortal. See more Karen N. @LagomorphLady Jan 9 MJ was a controversial figure, but it is difficult to argue his talent as a musician and dancer. My husband and I were in our 50s when this came out in theatres, and we saw it first by ourselves, and then twice with other family/friends, each time really getting into the performances in his tour rehearsals! It was difficult to sit still in our seats—the music was that catchy! See more Jason J @Mjfan Dec 10 A great movie but it is bittersweet, as it makes me want something I know I’ll never have. See more Chris W @CWG7263 Nov 10 This film shows you just how much of an musical genius Michael Jackson truly was, from his moves, to his stage presents, his artistic background from a young age you could see how much of a icon this man truly was. Working with the great Kenny Ortega as director and getting him ready for a completely sold out 50 date tour in the summer of 2009. Unfortunately Michael would not get to his first date of his tour so this movie is a look behind the scenes of the days leading up before that horrible day in June. Watch sing along and maybe shed a tear or two to one of the greatest musical minds of yours and our generation.
