The one notable thing is that this is where Lon Chaney Jr. took over the role of the Mummy, with his formidable size adding menace to the role. Watchable but not worth revisiting. This movie runs 61 minutes and includes a large portion of the first act that is nothing more than a recap of the story material from the preceding film. Anyways, The Mummy's Tomb is a decent flick. The Mummy's Tomb es una secuela que fue hecha para intentar lucrar con esta saga y existía la posibilidad de narrar una continuación interesante. La historia trae de regreso a los 2 protagonistas de la película anterior y el regreso de Kharis amenazando a la familia de Stephen Banning era una buena idea para ofrecer una buena secuela. Lon Chaney Jr. volvió a tener la oportunidad de interpretar a Kharis y sigue manteniendo el ritmo que tenía en la película anterior. Aunque se trata de una película hecha con bajo presupuesto, no se descartaba la posibilidad de que esta fuera una buena secuela. A diferencia de la película anterior, aquí no hay humor y la historia pretende ser tomada en serio. Pero lamentablemente, la película no tiene un guion bien estructurado y eso hace que esta sea la primera secuela fallida de la franquicia de monstruos clásicos. Todo arranca bien al inicio con flashbacks resumiendo lo ocurrido en The Mummy's Hand durante 15 minutos. Luego descubrimos que Andoheb ha sobrevivido también y le pide al sacerdote Mehemet Bey llevar a Kharis a Estados Unidos para acabar con Banning y su familia. Toda va bien hasta ahí, pero el resto de la película tiene muchas cosas que son forzadas u ocurren por conveniencia del guion. Se nota que el guion fue escrito a la fuerza sin una buena estructuración o sin dar ciertas explicaciones. Al inicio Stephen da a entender que su esposa Marta falleció, pero no explica cómo sucedió. El regreso de Andoheb justificando que solo fue disparado en el brazo fue algo absurdo. No hay una clara explicación de que Kharis haya sobrevivido tras ser quemado porque aparece de nuevo intacto. Andoheb dice que Kharis solo se quemó la pierna y eso es ridículo cuando en el flashback se ve claramente que las llamas recorrían su cuerpo. La película no tiene protagonistas y Stephen es usado solo como una víctima. John y su prometida Isabel son los únicos que podrían haber tenido participación, pero son usados como último recurso para lo que queda de la película. Babe regresa y este personaje también pudo haber jugado un rol importante. Su regreso parece indicar que será alguien crucial para la historia, pero el guion lo termina desechando al igual que Stephen. Una mala idea que metieron a la fuerza en el guion fue que Bey sienta atracción por Isabel y por más que trate de no desviarse de su objetivo, se le ocurre la idea de convertirla en su esposa para darle descendencia. ¿Es en serio? Kharis reacciona de manera extraña sin explicación cuando Bey le ordena que busque a Isabel. La forma en la que Bey muere es ridícula y el clímax es muy sacado de Frankenstein. No tiene ni siquiera sentido que Kharis haya podido trepar una mansión con Isabel en los brazos sabiendo que tiene limitaciones. Debido a que todos los personajes terminan siendo puro relleno y son usados cuando al guion le conviene, la historia termina siendo aburrida en vez de emocionante. No es una historia coherente, las cosas pasan solo porque si y no hay personajes relevantes con los cuales conectar. Aunque The Mummy's Hand reservo a Kharis solo para la segunda mitad, al menos se tomó el tiempo para desarrollar una historia estable a pesar de los clichés. The Mummy's Tomb no tiene una historia estable y solo entra en acción sin dar mucho contexto. Si no lo piensas demasiado, la película puede llegar a ser divertida y fácil de digerir. Es bastante simple sin entrar en contexto y más si no has visto The Mummy's Hand. Pero cualquiera que haya visto la película anterior, se dará cuenta de que The Mummy's Tomb es una secuela innecesaria. Desde luego pudo haber sido una película decente por lo menos, pero acabo siendo una película mediocre. Mi calificación final para esta película es un 6/10. For starters, the first 30 minutes of the movie are nothing but scenes and a retelling of what happened in the film THE MUMMY'S HAND. Then, the film does its best to set the scene 30 years after THE MUMMY'S HAND but other than the actors from THE MUMMY'S HAND wearing makeup, it doesn't do much to convince us. They should have also reshot the backstory scenes with Lon Chaney Jr instead of just using THE MUMMY'S HAND footage with Tom Tyler as The Mummy because it is obvious the two actors (Chaney and Tyler) look nothing alike. See more Blu B @RT43513976 11/28/2023 The worst Classic Universal Monster Movie I've seen. The actual sequel is really only 48 minutes or so and it feels longer than that because it drags somehow at certain points which is crazy. Even though this has more mood, atmosphere, and some great scenes with the angry mob at the end it only goes so far masking the major issues. Subpar pacing, acting, and editing are all rampant here. The characters from the original get no development, are used to just explain plot most of the time, and blend in so much so that I genuinely could'nt tell who was who at almost any given point. The villian is boring and the new Mummy isn't that good looking as the other 2 (especially Karloff). It's kind of surreal as this is basically a Pre-Psycho slasher just without stabbing but it also comes with a lot of the pitfalls as well. There really is no plot besides kills just happen for really no explained reason besides the new villian wants to bring back the Queen again but never explains why the others need to die. They all blend in like Friday the 13th teens (maybe even worse dare I say). And again this feels like it drags somehow which is mind boggling. It basically is a reason to bring the Slasher villian back to kill people. If your really curious about seeing what a crappy slasher would be like from the Golden Era give it a try. This sequel was made two years after The Mummy's Hand, and yet it's set 30 years in the future, for some reason. And aside from some old-age makeup, it feels like it's basically set during the same era. In addition, this movie spends a quarter of its already short runtime showing full-length scenes from the previous movie, and then it basically copies the plot of the original. Plus, even though it's only an hour long, the story still seems threadbare. The presence of Lon Chaney Jr. gave me hope for The Mummy's Tomb, but this creature feature really drags.
