Iris C @Mizred Jan 10 I think some movies were just made because an older lead actor wanted to screw a hot young girl on camera. This feels like one of those. I had to read it on Wikipedia afterwards to understand WTH I just watched. The last 30 minutes being nothing more than a recap of everything that already happened, with a grand finale of Dafoe masterbating about it seemed appropriate in this case. See more Alain E @AlainE Oct 31 A lot of consternation about this movie mostly because people fail to understand that this is equivalent to a graphic novel addressed to an adult audience. The director indulges in obtaining excellent sensual images in the prolonged night club sequence for example. It doesn’t enhance the plot but creates nice images with low lighting. Violence mostly occurs off screen. We learn that bad things happened at Hosaka’s lab but we don’t witness anything. Dafoe is holed in the dingy hotel of the title with a small pistol, but we never see him firing it. Obviously Walken and Dafoe can select where to work and they thought this was quality entertainment, but not for the masses, I would add. See more steve d @RT36230698 May 30 It deserves half a star. It gets two for the Asia Argento topless parts and for the mere presence of Walken. A lot of baffling directorial decisions here. It's trying to be a few different things yet achieves none of them. The story is very poorly explicated. It has a mood you can never quite put your finger on, kind of sardonic but also dreary. There really does not seem to be any story worth telling. The end is so annoying and confusing that if you make it that long you will regret not switching it off. Everything this has to offer is over in the first 30 minutes, the rest is repetitive and redundant, with actual scenes repeated several times for no apparent reason. See more Read all reviews
