"Outcome" is a dark comedy that centers on Reef Hawk (Keanu Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that's sure to shatter his image and end his career. With the support of his lifelong besties Kyle (Cameron Diaz) and Xander (Matt Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer Ira (Jonah Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer. Co-writer and director Hill brings a unique lens to Reef's wild but spiritually cleansing, nostalgic and eye-opening trip down memory lane, where confronting his past might be the only way to rescue his future.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Outcome collapses under its own ambitions, playing as a garish, tonally erratic and heavy-handed satire that fumbles its intriguing ideas about stardom in an overlong and largely unfunny jumble of wasted talent.

Ultimately Outcome needed a more refined, truthful director. Go to Full Review

It’s hard to imagine this mumbling, shambling man holding multiplex masses in his thrall. As such, he’s a poignant void, but a void nonetheless, and even at a slim 84 minutes, Hill’s doleful film can’t keep us interested in his plight. Go to Full Review

These sorts of stories require a thoughtful and measured approach, and the right perspective. Hill comes at it with a heavy hand and a wrecking ball. Go to Full Review

It’s astonishing just how dull Outcome is, considering both its remarkably short runtime of less than 90 minutes and its oddly fascinating supporting cast. Go to Full Review

Hill tries to recapture that excessive and irreverent improvisation of the abrasive films he starred in at the beginning of the century, but all in a tone as garish as the cinematography he chooses. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Whatever Hill is actually trying to say in Outcome feels badly muddled and poorly thought through -- the work of someone who has important things he wants to express but hasn’t yet developed the craft to express them. Go to Full Review

Andrew D @RT65866349 6h Hard to even sit through. I was taken aback by the number of household names they were able to convince this was a good script and plotline. Falls short of the other recent unimaginative films about a star actor being a star actor. See more Claire P @RT87741108 13h What an absolutely annoying piece of crap and I have only watched 10 mins! Awful characters and Jonah Hill, why do they keep giving him money to make this crap? Avoid this film and take a dump instead, it will be more fulfilling. See more Trevor G. @tlgor1 22h I was over this movie 10 minutes in. What a waste of talent. See more Nathan M @RT72812624 1d The only reason I finished this movie was because I couldn't bring myself to believe I was watching something so utterly terrible. Literally so awful I made an account here to post this rating. Johna Hill was insufferable, and the random scene to make him more "human" and "Likeable" was a forced and cringey mess. It did nothing to reverse the hatred I developed towards his character. The entire premise of the movie was weak and uninspired. I can just imagine the writers room "Hey people think Keanu Reeves is a good guy, let's make a movie about that!" The allure of "oh hey I know that actor!" lasts about 3 minutes of the entire runtime. The new war of the worlds movie was better than this. I can only say that I dread the AI generated slop movies in the years to come, but I can guarantee all of them will be better than this. See more Fred N @fneylan 1d If you ever wondered what Jonah Hill would be like without a director telling him to tone it down, this shows you. What did Martin Scorsese do to deserve to be in this mess? See more beverly L @RT52629487 1d I got up and left 25% of the way through. Jonah Hill was seriously painful to watch. The whole time I was thinking what is the point to this? What a waste of talent. See more Read all reviews
