Critics Consensus

Far from refreshing, Peppermint wastes strong work from Jennifer Garner on a dreary vigilante revenge story that lacks unique twists or visceral thrills.

Bad timing can kill a movie that has everything going for it, but the problem with Peppermint isn't so much bad timing as tone deafness on an egregious scale.

Peppermint is jaw-droppingly ugly, horrendously violent, implicitly racist and routinely handled.

From a broader perspective, the film marks an intriguing new stage in Hollywood's ongoing effort to figure out what action movies about women (and aimed at them) should look like.

I really like the weightiness that [Jennifer Garner] brought to the material.

John Ortiz caps off the action with one of the silliest speeches in action movie history. And that bar is pretty high.

Peppermint is one of Jennifer Garner’s strongest performances in years, and I honestly enjoyed it much more than I expected. While many people dismiss it as another revenge-driven action movie, I think it offers much more than that. Garner delivers an emotional performance that makes you feel her grief, determination, and relentless pursuit of justice. The story is heartbreaking from the very beginning, giving you every reason to root for her character. The action sequences are intense, well choreographed, and keep the movie moving without overshadowing the emotional core. It’s definitely not a perfect film, and there are moments where the writing takes familiar turns, but none of those flaws were enough to take me out of the experience. Overall, I found Peppermint to be compelling, entertaining, and surprisingly emotional. It’s a well-made action thriller that I enjoyed from beginning to end and one I’d happily watch again. Jennifer Garner absolutely carries the film.

Strong performance from Jennifer Garner in this action packed cliche vigilante revenge story. Empathy and maternal instincts set this vigilante assassin apart from the typical Hollywood dark heroine. Enough plot twists to keep things interesting. Definitely worth a watch, especially if you like "stick it to the man" ethos and rebellion.

Not great but not terrible either. Don't know why the critics gave such bad reviews, the audience score on here is a much better reflection of this movie. I sometimes think the critics are just snobs. Fairly standard revenge movie plot, but with a female protagonist. Very violent throughout. Worth a watch but wouldn't watch it twice.
