Based on a true story, the film tells of the courageous men and women who risk their lives every working day, pitting their fishing boats and rescue vessels against the capricious forces of nature. Their worst fears are realized at sea on Halloween of 1991, when they are confronted by three raging weather fronts which unexpectedly collide to produce the greatest, fiercest storm in modern history -- "The Perfect Storm."

While the special effects are well done and quite impressive, this film suffers from any actual drama or characterization. The end result is a film that offers nifty eye-candy and nothing else.

A surprisingly straightforward 'based on a true story' adaptation about blue collar workers battling capitalism and dying at the hands of Mother Nature. A solid cast, great FX, and old fashioned gender norms, but composer James Horner needs to ease off!

A stellar and emotional film, The Perfect Storm delivers one of the more powerful true-story adaptations, even with its tragic ending. George Clooney leads a strong cast including Mark Wahlberg, John C. Reilly, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, all bringing authenticity and heart to the story. Great performances, strong crew chemistry, and impressive storm visuals make this a memorable and sobering watch.
