In an act of desperation, impulsive black sheep Alejandro flees his home in Mexico. On the run from his unforgiving father, Alejandro finds himself in New York City where he meets Jack, a college age pet store employee with similar parental baggage. Together the two enter a whirlwind romance sending them down the rabbit hole of drugs and depravity in Manhattan's underworld. When Alejandro's past threatens to catch up with him, Jack is forced to choose between his family and a life on the run.

The most damning thing about Pet Shop Days is that, even in an LGBTQ cinema landscape starved of controversy, Schnabel’s coming-of-age attack on basic human decency is more likely to elicit yawns than gasps.

Nepotism at its ripest: The arrogance and pomp allowed Julien Schnabels boy .. to coerce A listers for this disjointed gratuitously violent, silly charade of a film.... Only fun note seeing Grace Brennans ( see Phony coming out on Hulu spring 2026 ) debut and the only decent actress not engaged in some poop scene or over the top sex/ violence ...even Dafoe was cringe, portraying lecherous Dad Absolutely mortifying to watch and was majority of performance. Yuck. Except for Grace Brennan.
