Khaled A @kabualma 4 days ago Loved the subtlety of this film. However, some things I leave me somewhat confused. I felt like the character of Johnny was somewhat inconsistent. From a convincingly loving husband, to a traitor who rats his wife, to a simple waiter at a bar. And then immediately, as soon as he sees a Nelly-lookalike, he conjures up this manner of military discipline, this professional precision in every word and order he gives her. It was intriguing, but not clear enough for me. If he also wanted her inheritance all along.. why would he divorce her? It seems counterproductive. And if divorce is Nelly's breaking threshold moment, which should remove her rose-colored glasses.. why did Winter not just give her the divorce papers before, while she was trying to convince her that her husband is a terrible person? The fact that she waited to show this to her only as an attachment to her suicide letter seems too plot-convenient to me. Such a commanding presence; her acting skill, intelligence, intensity as well as subtlety is remarkable. The writing sets this film apart most of all. It's a complex, layered story, but Petzold pulls it off so well. There's no rush, no macguffin crutch, just a well-paced film that pulls the viewer fully into its world, just as the former lover/partner is drawn in only to feel the devastating truth that he must know. Truly inspired. Excellent performances by the leads & strong support work the the rest of the cast. 4.3 stars See more Jack S @RT58840043 Jun 8, 2025 It’s a tribute to this engrossing film that viewers can foresee the inevitable conclusion early on and yet still experience an emotional wallop during the reveal in the last act. I was drawn into the story of this damaged individual so completely that I didn’t register the “implausibility” mentioned by many of the critics. Hoss is simply unforgettable here as a holocaust survivor uncertain about learning the truth behind a betrayal. See more Abdulla A @RT31378547 May 24, 2025 He didn't recognise his own wife because she was disfigured, I understand. But what about her voice. Am I expected to believe he never remembered her voice. This film broke the contract between story and my believability. It never made any sense.
