The discovery of a clue to mankind's origins on Earth leads a team of explorers to the darkest parts of the universe. Two brilliant young scientists lead the expedition. Shaw hopes that they will meet a race of benevolent, godlike beings who will in some way verify her religious beliefs, while Holloway is out to debunk any spiritual notions. Critics Consensus

Ridley Scott's ambitious quasi-prequel to Alien may not answer all of its big questions, but it's redeemed by its haunting visual grandeur and compelling performances -- particularly Michael Fassbender as a fastidious android.

Prometheus recaptures the essence of not only a beloved franchise, but also an admired yet complicated genre many filmmakers attempt but few successfully. In short, it shows the amateurs how it's really done.

Even if the movie's logic ultimately spirals down into a vortex of hysteria, horror and hokum, I enjoyed the bulldozer intensity of the climax, which barely keeps a lid on the crackpot cult movie that's wrestling for the soul of this... blockbuster.

Yeah, I love the film. It’s a big budget version of a stupid 80s alien-rip-off. That’s how I view it. It’s not canon, obviously. It’s a rip-off film like Galaxy of Terror but made by an immensely talented filmmaker (not storyteller).

Prometheus may not be a satisfying prequel, but it more than makes up for it by being a fascinating sci fi film to unpack.

Michael Fassbender steals the show. His unsettling portrayal of David will forever be one of my favorites. Forever saddened that the mythology is so misunderstood by the audience

It's the best movie to date in Alien franchise in my opinion. There is a good story to it that makes you wanna know more and not just pure action and scares.

It’s the kind of movie you can watch over and over again. It explains the theory behind the beginning.
