Critics Consensus

Rambo III finds its justice-dispensing hero far from the thoughtful drama that marked the franchise's beginning -- and just as far from quality action thriller entertainment.

Engages the plight of the Mujahideen with a humanizing, doc-like approach (fascinating to witness, all these years later, when the ally/enemy tables have turned so drastically). Go to Full Review

Strays slightly from the formula and therefore loses some of its mindless fun credentials. Go to Full Review

Always at ground zero in the chaos is Rambo -- gloriously, inhumanly impervious to fear and danger -- whose character is inhabited by Stallone with messianic intensity. Go to Full Review

It’s lighter, the action is energetic, and the cheese adds to the experience. Go to Full Review

Rambo III is not a movie. It is a trading company… such a monotonous rumble was putting me to sleep. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Abdullah N @RT19884846 Oct 6, 2026 It is a good action movie with fantastic action sequences; I really enjoyed the film and its action. However, I would have liked the screenplay to feature more detail and a more engaging, dramatic plot—similar to the second installment. While I liked the story, it was somewhat predictable. However, I didn't feel the same level or intensity of events as in the previous two parts. Overall, it was a successful experience, though I still prefer the two previous films. My rating for it is 7.7/10 or 3.85/10. See more Romas M @Romas Aug 29, 2026 Greetings from Lithuania. "Rambo III" (1988) is action flick fuelled with testosterone in every meaning of this word. Undestructable like a hero itself, this film delivers. It's not as fun as "Rambo II" or good as "First Blood" but it delivers what it promises to deliver - action action action. Cartoonishly unrealistic, but faked as a real stuff, it blows everything and like the hero itself, it almost never misses. The action is over the top, with bad guys (SSRS soldiers this time) are being nothing more that just a flesh between our hero and the bullets - who cares! Rambo delivers! Overall, if you still haven't seen this flick, do yourself a favor a do it, to truly understand the meaning of Rambo - non stop fun. Revisiting it in 4K recently was a blast - this film, as it is, never looked or sounded better. Every movie has the same “You don’t need to find him, he’ll find you” speech in a different battleground but this one is arguably the best of the original trilogy. See more Veerendra A @VeerAgale Jun 4, 2026 Entertaining From Start To Finish The movie focused heavily on large scale action and adventurous sequences. The desert setting and battle scenes gave the film a different feeling compared to the earlier movies. Some parts felt over the top, but the action still stayed exciting and easy to enjoy. Overcall, it was a fun action movie that continued the Rambo series in an entertaining way. See more Chris H. @cdheard365 Apr 18, 2026 I thought this movie was fun and action packed. It's not as good as the first two movies and definitely not as good as the 4th one, but it's worth checking out for any 80s action fans/Stallone fans out there. See more Read all reviews
