What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's noticeably subject to the law of diminishing returns, but Rocky III still has enough brawny spectacle to stand in the ring with the franchise's better entries.

It would be true to say that Stallone has improved as a director, delivering a short, almost staccato movie which zips through the whole fable fast enough to prevent familiarity breeding contempt. Go to Full Review

Stallone is distinctly at his best when the film takes off into almost abstract montages of ;music or images, or in the nifty choreography of the fights. Go to Full Review

Rocky was a right hook that hit satisfying home: Rocky II was a good follow-up left: Rocky III is a redundant flurry of fisticuffs long after the match has been won and the referee has raised the victor's arm. Go to Full Review

All up I think this is probably the best of the Rocky films in visual terms, but its story is severely lacking and its depth is non-existent. Go to Full Review

The Survivor song, "Eye of the Tiger," might be the best thing about this film which has Rocky going against Mr. T as Rocky's adversary. Go to Full Review

Very much a film of the ’80s. Not only did it co-star 1980s icons like Mr. T and Hulk Hogan, but it made Rocky a bit more musclebound than he’d been earlier, in line with the G.I. Joe aesthetics of the time. (40th anniversary) Go to Full Review

John K @WQCMI 1d Campy, but watchable. I like Mr. T as the villain (Clubber Lang) because his acting is amazing. I also like Apollo being a good guy because it gives him a chance at redemption. Plus, Eye of the Tiger is a catchy song. However, some parts of the film was just very silly, but I can see why this film has its fans. See more Jason H Feb 8 Cheesy, and Sylvester Stallone doesn't act like Rocky in the movie. He acts like Sylvester Stallone. See more Jim P Jan 8 Still an interesting story. Still great entertainment! See more Guilherme M Nov 30 Despite using the same formula as the previous movies, Rocky III develops more the Rocky's character, diving into honor, strengh and redemption. Seeing Apollo Creed training Rocky Balboa ( and fighting him afterwards ) is the chef's kiss for the fans . See more Anne C Sep 27 I loved rocky 1 and 2 and 3 was pretty good films i thought See more John M Sep 11 This is pure americana juice. Are u kitten me? Forgot the Hulkster was in this as well. Also this movie reveals the actual statue of Rocky in Philadelphia. Let's have a run on the beach. Eye of the tiger! We need a montage! I pity the fool. One of the most iconic films of all times! Clubber Lang go for it! See more Read all reviews
