Jodie Foster stars as Clarice Starling, a top student at the FBI's training academy. Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn) wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into a case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out.

This film is probably the best example of the crossover between the Drama/Thriller genre and the Horror genre. The scenes with Buffalo Bill are viscerally horrific, but the psychological horror of Lecter’s interrogations of Clarice are just as disturbing. But for the first time ever I got round to watching "Manhunter" yesterday, and I have to say I found that film far more compelling and rounded compared to Lambs. The protagonists in that film - Peterson and Cox - were equally outstanding as Hopkins and Foster were here, but the film overall had a far tighter direction and an intensity that was a little lacking in Lambs, Moreover the final 10 minutes and the confrontation between Foster and BB just felt a little forced and unrealistic in all honesty. That said, Lambs is a great film.
