Dr.J Sep 7 Good performances, not your typical "Rocky" story. More realistic as to the desires, means and consequences of being a fighter. It was a bit too repetitive in making its point -- the length an aging boxer will go to in order to have his last hurrah -- and so it got a bit tedious. Otherwise, interesting and reccomended. See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Mar 26 The Cut starring Orlando Bloom is a disturbing sports drama that shows just how far obsession can push someone. More than being about boxing, the film is really about ego, desperation, and self-destruction. It follows an aging boxer trying to make one last comeback, but instead of inspiring, the journey becomes brutal and unsettling. What makes the film work is how raw the weight-cutting process feels. It shows the dangerous extremes people will go to in order to meet a standard, even if it means completely destroying themselves physically and mentally. Some of the choices made in the final act are genuinely horrifying and hard to watch. Orlando Bloom gives a committed performance and fully throws himself into the role, even if some moments feel slightly forced. Overall, it’s not a perfect movie, but it’s intense, effective, and definitely worth checking out. What should have been a gritty boxing comeback story plays more like a low-budget training documentary about starving yourself to make weight. The film barely focuses on the fight itself, instead drowning in endless flashbacks, fever-dream hallucinations, and scenes of a washed-up boxer punishing his body for "one last shot" at relevance. John Turturro shows up — and as always, he’s solid — but even he can’t rescue a movie this unfocused. You keep waiting for momentum, for emotional payoff, for something to justify the runtime, and it never arrives. By the end it feels less like a sports drama and more like a cautionary slideshow on dehydration. An empty, exhausting flop. Entertaining and Turturro should be in line for a best supporting actor nom at the major awards. Not everyone's cup of tea but I did enjoy it.
