B C @RT44479896 Jan 28, 2024 The only production to see Ogre and the Hoff together, and as sideshows! The lines seem intentionally written to not be musical. See more Oct 27, 2019 Left me hanging. Want more of the story. See more Apr 4, 2017 Lot's of incredible designs, costumes, concepts, etc. Unfortunately, the A-story is not all that compelling. Watchable, but does not deliver what fans had been hoping for over the long 5 year wait since the original. See more Dec 18, 2016 I liked the expanding of the world of The Devil's Carnival, and I liked the portrayal of Heaven as being like golden age Hollywood (pretty from a distance, but tainted when you look closer), but overall I think Devil's Carnival worked better as a short rather than a feature. It kind of starts to overstay its welcome, and Heaven isn't as much fun as Hell was (also Hell had better songs). Still, if you're a fan of Devil's Carnival, you'll probably enjoy this entry since it has a lot more of what you love. The sets are gorgeous making full use of their miniscule budget, the performances are great, the songs are catchy, and the themes are interesting. The extended runtime does also manage to give more time for character development, so it ends up being a bit deeper in that regard than the original. Overall I definitely like the first one more, but this is still a welcome entry in the saga. And with that painful cliffhanger ending, I can't wait to see what comes next. See more Jun 29, 2016 "Always Alleluia" We return to the Carnival for the second episode of Darren Lynn Bousman and Terrance Zdunich's macabre musical movies. This time, it's feature length and we get a peak behind the curtain at the inner workings of Heavenly Productions Inc. (Heaven) where things aren't exactly Holy.. Meanwhile, back down below, Lucifer and the carnies prepare for war, and we learn a little about one Carnie in particular, and how her fall set the stage for what's coming. The first part of the series, The Devil's Carnival, was a fun albeit short piece of film that you knew had potential though they rushed to fit it all in 50 minutes.. Here, they have more then enough time and they really do set up the two sides of the conflict pretty well... Honestly my only complaint is the songs are hit or miss just like the first one, but at least this one has more plot to chew on so the songs aren't carrying the entire weight of the film... Honestly, I'm looking forward to what comes next, and seeing if Lucifer, the Ticket-Keeper, The Painted Doll and all the rest manage to take down God and his lapdogs (seeing as I'm assuming episode 3 will be the war)... Hopefully we don't have to wait as long this time round. See more Apr 3, 2016 I guess this is the second act of Bousman and Zdunich's Hell vs Heaven trilogy. This film is much stronger than the first, although I am gouging my final score for it because it absolutely has an unsatisfactory ending. The meat of the movie is a very classic, old style romance between one of Heaven's Applicants and God's #1 servant. Emilie Autumn steps up to take the lead from her supporting role in the first film and knocks it out of the park. This love story I found absolutely riveting and kept me engaged in the film. I found it so good that my utter disappointment with the ending of the movie is that it builds and builds to these two characters finally reuniting after eons... And that reunion is beyond underwhelming. For how much I came to love these two, I am so sad that what I wanted from their reunion may have to wait for a third film. That aside, this movie is much more sleeker than the previous film. It has more of its tone hammered down. There's added cartoon sounds and cartoon captions that float about to enhance the storytelling. While it sounds cheesy, I found it effective. Again, this movie isn't for everyone, but I'm really happy Bousman & Zdunich are making these off center films. See more Read all reviews
