Critics Consensus

The Dive's taut tension and real-time unraveling of its action make this an entertainingly harrowing experience despite occasionally murky visuals and a fairly standard survival story.

Flashbacks while in the water to the often harsh treatment of the girls by their overbearing father are more intrusive than informative. In the end, The Dive is an admirable niche film for a limited audience. Go to Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Aug 25, 2023

“The Dive” feels routine, a soggy journey from point A to point B that doesn’t do anything interesting enough to make it stand out in the dog days of summer. Go to Full Review Jake Cunningham Empire Magazine Aug 24, 2023

The Dive uses its underwater setting to add new thrills to a formulaic survivalist story, even if its attempts at emotional depth end up feeling a little shallow. Go to Full Review Rebecca Sayce FILMHOUNDS Magazine Jul 24, 2025

The concept soon runs out of breath due to its anti-climactic scenes of peril and stilted interactions between its two leading ladies that drain the tension from some of its most action-packed sequences. Go to Full Review John Serba Decider Feb 29, 2024
Although the film can be tense, is capable of holding us in the moment, and avoids indulging ludicrous twists, it never supersedes its base functionality. Go to Full Review Ezequiel Boetti Otroscines.com Nov 8, 2023

Infinite blue is the color of a true hell, an omnipresent danger that crushes the girls with the same force as it does the viewer. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review Read all reviews

bill F @BrokerBill Sep 8, 2026 The most excruciatingly irritating, cliched and poorly acted film I’ve ever seen. Both characters are incredibly annoying, the relentless serious of unfortunate events are totally unbelievable, the flashbacks totally pointless and the tension completely non-existent. As another commentator wrote - absolute garbage. Do not waste your time on this utter bilge! See more Eddie L @RT76540204 Oct 16, 2025 harrowing and emotional but in its attempt to stay tense it just wastes time and takes us all for a ride to nowhere, reminisce scenes were a bunch of fillers to waste even more time due to the screenwriters inabilty to think of anything creative, a third cast member with a good plot would have kept the audiance engaged See more Pinoy Short R @emill_santos May 6, 2025 Sakto lang. Medyo convincing naman un time frame nung bawat eksena. Hondi nga lang medyo makatotohanan na nailigtas sila ng tire black spray See more Ana G @RT76272466 Mar 18, 2025 Boring. I was more on twitter than actually watching the film See more Ricardo d @RT43154676 Feb 2, 2025 Existe uma tensão, mas nada de especial. Já vimos isso em outros filmes de temas de mergulho. A personagem Drew quem domina o filme, e isso faz com que meu interesse se mantivesse até o fim. Porque, o roteiro em si é simplório e cheio de pontas soltas. See more Andrew V @RT40182893 Oct 9, 2024 Really excellent survival, diving movie. There are some truly intense scenes and it shows the dangers of diving in a unique way. If you liked the Abyss or Underwater, you will very much enjoy this movie. I can see why its not for everyone, but fans of survival films and/or underwater films will like this. One small critique I have is I think it relies a bit too much on knowing some of the terms and issues with diving. This movie is not a great way to learn about diving. But if you do know some of the basics it is really intense. If you've seen the above mentioned movies, you probably know enough. See more Read all reviews
