Critics Consensus

The Green Inferno may not win writer-director Eli Roth many new converts, but fans of his flair for gory spectacle should find it a suitably gruesome diversion.

It's mostly just sad - not because Roth takes such a sharp scalpel to the social justice movement, but because he swings a baseball bat, and misses by a mile.

Flat-pack acting, frat-boy screenwriting (the portrayal of activists is spitefully dumb) and retro gore combine with smug throwback neocolonialist racism and unfunny jokes about diarrhoea, dope and Scooby-Doo.

es, Roth's film has its expected moments of high transgression, but you can never get away from the fact that all these references have been attached to the most hackneyed teen slasher narrative imaginable.

It’s still enjoyable to watch, but I can’t help but roll my eyes a bit at the way the tribe is depicted as the most evil, bloodthirsty killers imaginable.

The Green Inferno provides some momentary shocks, but it’s as heavy-handed as anything on Roth’s résumé.

There's nothing here but dread and gore. If it had been wrapped in a more coherent story it might have been a better film, but the entire thing, especially exemplified by the films ending, just goes to show that the writers goal was to leave you feeling like shit from start to finish no matter what angle you try to look at the piece through. All in all, a flatly written, flatly acted, one dimensional movie with lazy themes that do nothing but beat you over the head when they are presented, again, in the most flat and one dimensional ways possible. From the characters initial discussions and actions all the way to the final decisions in the end from Lorenza Izzo's character Justine. If that was the goal? Well done to everyone involved. You nailed it for the people who like that kind of... entertainment. Personally, that is not what I want to experience, not even in horror.

Takes a while to get going, is brutal and bloody but at the same time feels cheap and not in a good way, the film as a whole was ok but I won't be rushing to watch this a second time.

Pretty decent, obviously not a high brow horror but I’m now sure why the reviews are so low. If you know what you are getting yourself in for (gore!!!) then you’ll love it!

Terrível. História que tenta validar o péssimo roteiro no Plot Twist, porém continua sem convencer. Atuações ruins, personagens entediantes, edição que tenta acelerar o tempo porém confunde o espectador no contar da história.

This movie was just unbelievably gory and I can take some gore in a movie, I know Roth can be known for for his horror. But eating eyeballs in a movie is going too far for me. 🤢🤢
