THE LONELIEST BOY IN THE WORLD is billed as a modern fairytale--except with zombies. When the sheltered and unsocialized Oliver is tasked with making new friends after the sudden and devastating death of his mother, he decides that digging a few up (literally) might be his best bet. However, when he awakens the morning after his excavating escapades, he discovers that his newly acquired friends have mysteriously come to life overnight, launching them all into a series of misadventures as they try to keep their secret safe from neighbors, classmates, and social workers alike.

The gags tend to be so broad and lazy that it’s hard to imagine how this movie’s retro-bait sensibility will appeal to anyone other than the targets of this poisoned-apple crowdpleaser’s toothless criticism.

It’s a simple yet charming story that uses the sitcom format to satirize the nuclear family while offering the protagonist a chance for growth through escapism. The cute zombie comedy makes for an on-the-nose means of coping with death.

If you like Swiss Army Man, Wilfred or Voices you will absolutely love this. Was such a sad story but so very cool and uplifting at the same time. Me and my girlfriend both gave it 10/10

This seems to be made for no one older than a young teenager. So maybe the rating should be higher. At its core, it's about a boy whose mother kept him from socialising with his peers, but he managed to gain confidence after he no longer had her influence in his life (after she died). I like unusual, quirky films, but this one was lacking charm. And it seems the whole story was all in his head, so it left me feeling pretty concerned for the girl the boy ended up with. He's really not okay. Someone please send help.

it starts off pretty reasonably, with a few good jokes and some weird awkwardness, nice aesthetics and acting etc. the problem is that the script runs out of ideas right around where the movie should be picking up momentum, and it just has a little too much excessive gross out content. the pacing and the contrast between serious or comedic vs just outright disgusting stuff like watching the dad vomit up ooze for 10 minutes at the dinner table. it feels like we started out with an already niche product in terms of the concept, but the film alienates it's narrow remaining audience with a lack of commitment to either horror, drama, or comedy. it's just a little too much of everything at once, and i've seen enough stale jokes about losing body parts that the undead aspects of the film were probably the least appealing.
