Previously thought to be extinct, a massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific. With time running out, a visionary oceanographer recruits rescue diver Jonas Taylor to save the crew and the sea itself from an unimaginable threat -- a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon.

The Meg is an enjoyable movie if you don’t go in with lofty expectations for a movie about a giant shark that eats a bunch of people. It is the epitome of general audience popcorn fair, and an amusing spectacle.

The Meg beautifully photographs the electric colours of its underwater beauty with many suspenseful compositions to provide a visual punch that, through scale and terror, develops a lush cinematic aesthetic. Choosing lively deep blue tones, fast-paced editing, and heavy CGI graphics reinforces the mystery and threat of the ocean setting in this film. The aesthetic of the movie is one that operates upon entertaining and visually harsh visuals in an exaggerated style through exaggerated action sequences, shot composition, framing and visual effects.

I won't demand much of a shark film, I had really low expectations, but it exceeded a bit. The CGI and underwater atmosphere were the big point of this film. Despite the really short length of the film the story feels too dragged, but as always Jason Statham makes a great performance on action. The film is cruel and won't spare even the most charismatic characters, wich made it more likeable for me.
