Marco L @decatur555 4d The Wandering Earth has an enormous and genuinely imaginative premise: humanity builds planetary engines to move Earth away from a dying Sun. The scale is impressive, the frozen landscapes and underground cities often look spectacular, and the film is important as a major Chinese science-fiction blockbuster. Unfortunately, I found it exhausting. Everything is always urgent, every obstacle becomes another global catastrophe and one climax follows another until none of them has much impact. The constant exposition, alarms, frantic editing and emotional manipulation make the story feel much longer than it is. I admire the ambition and the focus on collective survival rather than one individual hero, but the characters remain thin beneath the spectacle. Visually impressive at times, yet extremely heavy and difficult to enjoy. See more X R @Xrizto Apr 30 Infantile nonsense. It’s like a bunch of 8 year olds were asked to write a script and direct a film and given a couple of million pounds to do it. It at the best is excruciatingly embarrassing, despite impressive CGI. The premise and solution are possibly the most empty headed of any sci fi movie proposal ever. If China thinks this is an erudite film it says a lot about China. Watch it for the visuals, turn off the script as you can’t unhear the drivel. Also normally when watching a film you want the protagonists to survive. In this case it actually made me hope for humanity’s destruction (not my default!). In short possibly the worst sci-fi movie ever despite mindless money. As a sci fi and B movie fan I wish I could be more positive.
