Critics Consensus

Tyler Perry's craftmanship as a director continues to improve, but his stories are still the same ol' hoary, pretentious melodramas.

The melodramatic film has numerous light and comical touches, and the performances are uniformly good. The film's pace, however, has the consistency of molasses. Go to Full Review Keith Uhlich Time Out Feb 26, 2012

A ridiculously redemptive finale negates almost all of the preceding dramatic tension and resurrects a cloying Richard Marx chestnut to boot. Go to Full Review Wesley Morris Boston Globe Feb 25, 2012

Whose life, Wesley asks in the movie's narration, is he living? Judging from all the sterile office and apartment space and his mile-long face, I'd say Bruce Willis's in "The Sixth Sense.'' Go to Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Sep 9, 2020

Stephen C @bob25009 May 29, 2025 1 hour and 51 minutes of a successful romantic drama movie. Rated PG-13 for Sexual Content, Language, Some Violence and Thematic Material!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See more Roger M F @RT36668628 Nov 23, 2024 This movie is so captivating and real. To this day I find myself returning to watch it. It resonates with me because at some point I was struggling like the protagonist. I had a minimum wage job. I could barely afford food and rent. Today I am way better off but I never forget where I came from. This movie shows you very well both sides of the coin See more mm P @RT43339447 Nov 19, 2024 GREAT PERFORMANCE Mr. Perry You started and direct... Outstanding!!!. Wesley/Natalia portrayal was on point. My childhood friend lives this life. Her parents planned her entire life including the number of kids and when appropriate to give birth. Her husband went along with everything but ended up with a mistress, which she accepted, as her mom told her it's the cost a successful business Unfortunately she didn't listen to the 'Lindsey' and kept 'face'. Her siblings are no better. They walk the same road in their varied careers. Hopefully she saw this movie as it's never too late to live YOUR life's dreams. Don’t be quick to rule a business owner out as selfish or mean. Some of us have more empathy then the rest. See more May 20, 2020 A wonderful and romantic movie...
