[This is] an forgettable tune in an otherwise interesting set list. Go to Full Review

Even as the “V/H/S” installments themselves remain fresh, the mat they fit feels progressively nostalgic. That’s an awkward position for a property whose modern reputation was made on cutting-edge discovery. Go to Full Review

That spirit of discovery is exactly why 'V/H/S/Mixtape' works. It’s a gory, gleeful and surprisingly cohesive collection from artists who treat sound as seriously as splatter. Go to Full Review
Chuck Bowen Style Weekly (Richmond, VA) 3 days ago
Astonishingly, it manages to shirk free of the nagging earnestness that is smothering modern pop art. It’s wildly uneven and embraces that inconsistency as part of the risk. Go to Full Review

All things considered, this seems likely to be the least accomplished V/H/S film of the series so far. Go to Full Review

Ryan T @RT91888008 12 hrs ago People don't appreciate horror and humor together. This was great! Maybe one story wasn't, but this was great! See more Alberto A @4Vk1n 1 day ago Movie is mediocre at best, the wraparound sucked in my own personal opinion, probably the weakest film since shudder got the rights to the V/H/S franchise, the segments were overall good some were ok, overall like a 5.2 out of 10, if it wasn’t for the horrible wraparound, a 6.8 out or 10. See more Sean E @EllissinemaPodcast 1 day ago Nine installments into the V/H/S franchise, and these maniacs are still finding new ways to turn obsolete recording equipment into cinematic depravity. V/H/S/Mixtape isn't the franchise's finest hour, but it's a bloody good time. GWAR hosts this demented, MTV-inspired nightmare while filmmakers Renee Zhan, David Moreau, Ernest Dickerson and RZA unleash their particular brands of madness. Jim Henson's Creature Shop delivers gloriously twisted puppetry, while Flying Lotus and Tobias Forge add macabre musical detours. The practical effects, sound design and sheer creative insanity deserve serious applause. Not every segment lands. Some ideas feel underdeveloped, others overstay their welcome. But that's the beautiful gamble of anthology horror. Nine movies deep, and these lunatics are still experimenting, getting messy and refusing to behave. Now rewind it. There's probably something horrible still living inside the tape. See more Eric H @RT26470416 1 day ago The wrap around is garbage. The shorts themselves are ok to good but this is one lowpoint in the series. See more Josh N @RT53511930 1 day ago Why hire Gwar and give them nothing to do? Why hire the Jim Henson Creature Shop and Barbara Crampton and give them nothing to do? There are two good segments here - the two shortest, which are basically music videos. Two others have five great minutes buried in 15+ minutes apiece. Two are completely devoid of redeeming qualities. I'd say this is my least favorite of the series, especially the lift of Beyond and Halloween. See more Read all reviews
