Critics Consensus

Providing Alan Ritchson an ideal vehicle to flex his brawny charisma, War Machine occasionally clanks when it comes to character depth but otherwise soldiers on to deliver an awesome dose of action spectacle.

It's a science-fiction survival film – the Ranger candidates are carrying blanks – with trace elements of Transformers, Battleship, and Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Somewhat derivative, but modestly enjoyable. Go to Full Review

The film’s R rating is well-deserved thanks to the profusion of burnt and dismembered bodies on view in the alien machine’s wake. Unfortunately, the screenplay by Hughes and co-writer James Beaufort leaves much to be desired. Go to Full Review

It makes for a slicker-than-usual streaming premiere, an easy, drink-your-way-through-it Friday night option for those who wish to remain entirely unchallenged. Go to Full Review

War Machine is one of the most agonizingly boring films in recent memories, reveling in its garden-variety elements while failing to take advantage of what little novelty it does possess. Go to Full Review

That said, the film also delights in showing blood, bones and guts, so be warned if you're not in the mood for a glut of flying viscera. Go to Full Review

M S @Beavis44 14h Corny, but somewhat entertaining. Also, could they cast Ranger candidates who look like they could actually be rangers. If you ever see special ops people in real life, they look like special ops people. Most of these guys besides reacher don’t. Take the movie for what it is, harmless entertainment. See more Nam N @NamNguyen 1d Straightforward movie, I enjoyed the actions, also the emotional scenes are great. The movie follows a classic story about a heroic soldier suffered from the fact that he was unable to save his brother. Trying to surpass the pain by fullfilling his brother wish: joining the special military team, the protagnist then face an universal mechanic threats that wipe out his team. The fight is constant with high pace throughout the movie, there are some characters with clear development and unique characteristics. In conclusion, it is a enjoyable movie about brotherhood and the bravery of soldiers. See more Chelsea H. @ChelsDez 1d I mean…. I’ll start by saying I wanted to watch this because 1. I loved the show Reacher the main character played it so I figured he’d be great in this which is was. And 2. I thoroughly enjoy war and combat action movies for the intensity start to finish. I would have given this more stars if it wasn’t for the thing the characters are fighting. CORNY. What even is it? An alien? A transformer? Let’s be real… That made the entire movie go from mostly good to mediocre real quick. At least for me anyway.. I would have enjoyed watching believable and realistic combat scenes between people 1000% See more Madam D @Madam1948 1d Combination sci fi & military combat film. Lots of action & emotional scenes. See more Lucas C @RT79170072 1d It’s a good movie. The beginning was fantastic, a great lead up to a jam packed war film. Then the aliens came, and it got a little less good. I wasn’t expecting how it would play out, but it was still captivating and I wanted to finish it! Some corny one liners take you out of the experience in my opinion, but it seems like a good layup for a second movie if they want to in the future. See more Lucas H @RT19546852 1d It's and okay movie with decent visual effects however it's very predictable first half is definitely better than the 2nd See more Read all reviews
