Critics Consensus

While devotees of John Updike's novel may want to put a hex on George Miller's cartoonish and effects-laden adaptation, Jack Nicholson lends enough decadent devilry to make this high-concept comedy sizzle.

All in all, a polished and witty bit of male sexual panic.

Nicholson doesn't need special effects; he is one himself. Yet on balance, the film is mostly an outrageous, foul-mouthed good time.

This is a remarkably faithful rendition on film of a most diverting novel, showing that, in the right hands, movies can achieve all the delights of literate entertainment.

It's a shame that our trio of leading ladies don't get more to do (it is called 'The Witches of Eastwick', after all), but it's difficult to hold that against it when Nicholson's performance is so devilishly good.

The movie is clearly more interested in Nicholson's devil than the trio of women and the screenplay drops the queer characters, but the film is synonymous with cherries, polygamy and that over the top climax

I genuinely don’t understand what people see in The Witches of Eastwick. It was nothing like I expected. The leads are extremely unlikable, and Jack Nicholson is downright abhorrent. The biggest problem, however, is that the story is an incoherent mess that offers no genuine whimsy to make its absurdity enjoyable. The humor is dated, the chemistry between the characters is nonexistent, and the ending is just as ridiculous as the rest of the film. What should have been a mischievous, fantastical romp ended up being an irritating experience.

Ignoring the fact that it can be gross and not scary, it's very funny to see. All the actors know how to stay in their character, in every single detail, and it has very funny moments too.

I had not seen it when it first was released to theaters and became a bit hit. I also haven't read the book this film is based on. So, maybe that will affect my review. I loved this movie. I loved the plot, the characters, and the celebrities who played thse characters.

Como não amar esse filme. Ele junta Jack Nickolson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Cher e Susan Sarandon em um romance absolutamente gostoso de ver

Is it perfect? No. Not by any means. Would I re-watch this every year around spooky season? Yes. Fun movie, easy watch.

DO NOT recommend! This is a waste of film, time and talent. I was under the impression this was a feminist film when in fact it’s anything but. It’s not funny, it’s not scary, they got gross. It’s shlock! It’s more focused on the Nicholson character and everything he does to the three female characters. He puts them under his power, they all fall for it then realize that maybe that wasn’t a good idea he should go. Oh and we all are carrying his demon seed. And he’s still around in the world to help corrupt his sons. From the title I expected more witch. I got Daryl, who fits right in with the current "manosphere" men of today. It’s all stupid. Don’t watch it!
