The presence of Connery is pure balm, purring those Celtic tones like smoky single-malt Scotch. Go to Full Review

The screenplay by David Weisberg and Douglas S. Cook (Holy Matrimony) and debut writer Mark Rosner is pulp fiction that requires the actors to shout a great deal, but the dialogue is decent given the rich tradition of adventure films. Go to Full Review

When it comes to action, well, put it this way—it takes some doing to make a cliché like a car chase through the streets of San Francisco seem fresh and exciting. And The Rock is only warming up. Go to Full Review

One of the things that separates The Rock from more basic Bay fare is the mashing of action styles. Go to Full Review

The Rock isn’t a great movie, but it’s great fun, and I’m glad I can I still watch it with a smile on my face. I’ll be curious to see what we both look like in another 20 years. Go to Full Review

A prime example of how to make a well-acted, yet entertaining popcorn blockbuster minus all the overindulgent approaches that [Bay]'s later notoriously known for. Go to Full Review

Blake- N @PBSAniDom May 29 The Rock is a surprisingly creative action film that stands out from many other movies in the genre. It combines explosive action, suspense, and memorable characters in a way that keeps the story engaging from beginning to end. What impressed me most was how the film balances intense action sequences with a strong sense of adventure. The setting adds a unique atmosphere, making the movie feel larger than a typical action thriller. The cast delivers solid performances, and the chemistry between the lead characters helps carry the film through its most exciting moments. The pacing is fast, but it still finds time to build tension and keep viewers invested. Even years after its release, The Rock remains an entertaining watch with plenty of energy and creativity. It may not reinvent the genre, but it executes its ideas very well. Overall, its a 7/10. See more Carson P @Parkerdean May 25 What makes the rock a perfect film especially when it comes to Michael bay is that it’s actually a smart prestige one it’s not mindless and it has a coherent plot and a strong script bays second film is by far his best because of that it’s well arranged and puts ambition to it I would even put it alongside terminator 2 as one f the smart thoughtful action films that are award worthy full of profound charachter development, nuanced storytelling and a sense of shock and awe wonder it’s that good bay deserves praise for this film as of today and he should be fondly remembered for this this along with Independence Day are two of the best blockbusters of all time it has violence with meaning and you actually get invested in what’s going on it’s definetly a must watch and easily easily one of the best things hollywood has put out in the 90s and is easily bay’s best work in terms of coherence, charachter and plot. See more Chuck D @RT91633657 May 19 It's just bad. Everything wrong with Michael Bay movies is on full display here. There's no real story, just a ridiculous chase scene from start to finish. Cage is terrible. He's bad on a good day, but wow. He's horribly over the top in this one. It's a terrible waste of an interesting idea and a great cast. See more Adam K @SunsetLonerCinema May 11 I have no qualms giving this 5 stars. One of the best action films of the 90s and Michael Bay's best work as a director. I love the shifts in the script blending large scale action seqeunces with witty humor and technical dialogue. The situation of an elder and a desk agent with no field experience saving the day is surely absurd, but there is more than enough great chemistry between Connery and Cage to give this a welcomed and entertaining boost. See more Ben W @Username618 Apr 26 OK. Do you know, Alcatraz actually means Pelican in Spanish. Less scary. See more Bruce M @BruceMc Apr 13 Watchable, but barely. Loud and stupid with a typically awful Nicolas Cage performance. Terrible script, too long, an incoherent mess. "The Rock" made a lot of money, but that doesn't mean it's good.
