An American adaptation of the Israeli show of the same name, "Euphoria" follows the troubled life of 17-year-old Rue, a drug addict fresh from rehab with no plans to stay clean. Circling in Rue's orbit are Jules, a transgender girl searching for where she belongs; Nate, a jock whose anger issues mask sexual insecurities; Chris, a football star who finds the adjustment from high school to college harder than expected; Cassie, whose sexual history continues to dog her; and Kat, a body-conscious teen exploring her sexuality. As the classmates struggle to make sense of their futures, the series tackles the teenage landscape of substance-enhanced parties and anxiety-ridden day-to-day life with empathy and candor.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Euphoria returns with less than the sum of its parts in a disjointed cavalcade of forced narratives that leave its talented cast stranded in the wind.

Some viewers may miss the Euphoria they fell in love with... But I think this was the best possible way that Euphoria could have overcome the losses and changes it was forced to push through in the time between seasons. Go to Full Review

Getting to watch Zendaya play these palpable emotions even in this silly context, I wanted nothing more than to gobble up every Euphoria episode I could get my hands on. Go to Full Review

The series works up such a sweat trying to shock and titillate that it forgets to be all that compelling. That’s no fault of the actors. Go to Full Review

The problem with the series' return four years after its sophomore season is how drastically the world and the show's original fans have changed, and how little Euphoria has grown in response. Go to Full Review

There’s not much in these first few episodes of "Euphoria" that suggests a potentially serviceable season of television. At best, it’s a guilty-pleasure consummation, and even then, it’s a boring husk of what the series once was. Go to Full Review

See more Jordan Y. @Jty512 1d It's funny and over the top. What's not to like? See more Freddy C @RT96652087 2d Rue story line was the only thing keeping me watching. But now everything is just so dumb and crazy for shock value. It's not even good as a background show anymore. A show you just put on in the background when you are doing other things. Should have been a limited series or something. These once H.S. kids... Lol. Just call this show "Saved By the Bell: The Onlyfan Years" and call it a wrap. No thank you, HBO. Hit me when season 2 of TASK comes up. Or... Give us a season 2 of The Outsider. Not this garbage TV. See more Malik D. @Princevon 2d Wow. I didn't think it could get this bad.
