Welcome back to Shadyside. In this next installment of the blood-soaked Fear Street franchise, prom season at Shadyside High is underway and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider puts herself in the running, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Tired and uninspired, Fear Street plays like an '80s retread of better slashers, while ensuring the winning crown does not go to this Prom Queen.

This deeply disappointing new Fear Street instalment leans too hard into worn-out tropes and excessive gore, at the expense of fun, engaging characters or any genuine scares. Go to Full Review

While the identity of the villain knocking off the prom queen candidates is obvious, the sheer uninhibited Road Runner meets Wile E. Coyote excitement of the climax remains delightfully infectious. Go to Full Review

There’s a lot of limb-severing and such. But “Fear Street: Prom Queen” never rises above its pedestrian concept, which simply lifts cliches from standard slice-and-dice opuses...without ever figuring just how seriously it wants to take them. Go to Full Review

The audio description track here is one of my favorites of the year. Liz Gutman’s writing is flawless, and the description captures every gory detail. While the movie is mixed for me, the description might be the reason I’m leaning positive. Go to Full Review

'Fear Street: Prom Queen' is a disappointing entry in this franchise as well as a symptom of this era of streaming slop. Horror fans deserve better than films like this. Go to Full Review

The sad truth is that nothing about this film works. Not the performances, not the comedy, not the storyline, nothing. Go to Full Review

Maddy D @MadelineDecline 1d It is amazingly funny and scary, and has definitely made it into my top 5 favourite films. I honestly dont understand why people are hating on it. Truly outstanding actors, crew, and director!!! See more Emily R. @RT25126563 3d Holy shi bro this was so ass omg 😭 it was sooo boring literally writhing this down while the movies playing See more Chris P @Xiao_Proxies 5d Fear Street: The Prom Queen is a modest addition to the horror TV-movie genre, neither terrible nor remarkable. It delivers what you'd expect from a made-for-TV slasher: a familiar setup, a string of murders, and a whodunit formula. The pacing is fine, and the film doesn't overstay its welcome. However, the biggest issue is its predictability. From the moment the plot kicks off, you can see the twists and the killer reveal coming a mile away. There's little tension or surprise, and the film plays things extremely safe. The acting is passable, nothing standout, but it gets the job done for this kind of production. Ultimately, it's a watchable but forgettable entry in the Fear Street universe. Enjoyable for genre fans who want something light, but don't expect anything groundbreaking. It is the most run of the mill slasher gore fest, and dare I say, it was dumb fun. The worst part is the characters, my god I just wanted them all to die and well you get want you want and thats enough for me. Not recommended though unless you are bored. See more Read all reviews
