Matteo S @giulio_sacchi Jul 21 A genuinely likable little movie. 15 Days takes the worst stretch of recent memory and finds the comedy in it without ever punching down. The two leads have real chemistry, the pacing occasionally stumbles, and none of that matters much because the whole thing is so easy to root for. It's rough around the edges in the way good indies usually are. Stick with it past the first ten minutes and it wins you over. As their unplanned, unwanted "vacation" from the services sector extends...and extends, roommates Lia and Kali resort to increasingly unconventional means of making a living. Their bond is endearing to watch. The girls both have to not only rely on each other to beat the odds, but invest into themselves. Kali has to tap into her past and her suppressed rage at entitled snooty customers, and Lia has to discover how amazing a talent she always took for granted is. Kali's actor gives a particularly natural performance, which helps offset some of the intentional, and unintentional awkwardness of what can be slightly drawn-out scenes. One low-hanging fruit this film misses is on audio; music is sometimes too quiet, background noise is not fully filtered, or the line between diegetic and non-diegetic is confusing. I really enjoyed all the different characters and the world-building. The production design and the locations was so well done and realistic! The characters were believable as well. I liked the two main actresses a lot; they helped guide us through the story and they had a genuine friendship. The film very well could have been called 15 Hats as an homage to writer/director Robert James’ many roles on the film! As an independent filmmaker myself, I know all too well the constant stacking of roles and responsibilities in order to make your film… but I’ve perhaps worn 2-4 roles tops! This was as close to a one man show as possible with Robert James writing/directing/editing/producing/shooting/ and acting in the film! 15 Days is a buddy movie, a date movie and filled with laughs! I was totally hooked by the humor and by the two main actresses who take you firmly by the hand to live their adventures during COVID: their social distress of finding themselves without employment and without state aid. The film emphasizes the fact that bars and restaurants had to remain closed for a long time and that the entire profession suffered as a result. But the film does not makes you cry, it is on the contrary light and funny, spicy, unexpected, and shows that one can talk about a social subject without being dramatic. Special mention to one of the two lead actress Cameron Bailey whom I couldn’t take my eyes off during the entire film because she is so radiant! See more Alec C @RT99326505 Dec 11 An issue (that should be) near and dear to all our hearts: Survival during the 'lockdowns' of 2020. 15 Days takes a (mostly) lighthearted approached to this subject matter. We follow two likeable women trying to survive because the bar they work at has been shut down by the government. What could be a grim reminder of how oppressive those times were instead becomes an enjoyable story about these two women figuring out how to make ends meet when the government has decided to take their normal jobs away from them. Things get a little more serious toward the end, but by that time, you should be on board for the method(s) by which our heroes take care of business. Both leads create distinct, memorable characters. Chalk this up to another example that there is, definitely, original entertainment out there to be consumed by anyone willing to take the time to look for it. See more Read all reviews
