Critics Consensus

An actor's movie with a strong cast, 44 Inch Chest can't quite redeem its static plotting and tonal shifts.

With violence on the menu, it's a guilty pleasure to watch these stage-trained hambones unleash a rapid-fire roundelay of righteous indignation. Go to Full Review John Hartl Seattle Times Feb 11, 2010

The frequently profane dialogue suggests David Mamet on an off-night (so does Malcolm Venville's claustrophobia-inducing direction), though the first-rate cast works hard. Go to Full Review Walter V. Addiego San Francisco Chronicle Feb 4, 2010

44 Inch Chest is worth seeing for the acting alone. But no matter how well this impressive cast handles the expertly-written dialogue from Mellis and Scinto, they can’t make up for the underwhelming outcome of the story. Go to Full Review John Gholson Cinematical Feb 10, 2012

Robert P @Superbad 4 days ago 44 Inch Chest is a *2* star Movie! See more Ian S @RT48225084 Jul 10, 2026 Theatrical dialogue driven piece with a great cast. All of the performances were good and the dialogue is often witty. Good movie that probably would have worked better in the theatre. See more Jack t @RT29143273 Jun 18, 2023 44 Inch Chest, really funny comedy drama. That had me burst out laughing because there are a lot of scenes that made me laugh. One is that Ray Winstone saying to the French waiter that I bet she's never farted in front of you and second that had me laughing in tears is that he said "And you're smiling like fxxk, because you know it's gonna please her." Now I know what you thinking, it's not like somebody's cutting someone's ear off, just like in Reservoir Dogs. See more Sep 3, 2021 The ending confused me See more Sep 29, 2017 Boring and confusing!
