Jackson B @RT09903416 2 days ago This movie has SO much world building and story potential that is absolutely ruined by writing and characterization. The story on it’s face is compelling: the daughter of a famous "Indiana Jones" style treasure hunter follows in his footsteps to find the famed philosopher’s stone using her father’s notes, others’ expertise, and her own daring intellect. However, the writers absolutely fail to deliver on this promising setup. They overload lore info into random moments of the film, and expect the viewer to believe that in their traumatized states, that they’d be able to observe and deduce these ridiculous puzzles based off of clues translated into English (that somehow rhyme in English too…). The greatest tragedy of this script, though, is the characterization of Scarlett—the heroine. Her character’s motivation of grief and unanswered questions gets boiled down into a crazy girl that drags people to their death and just says sorry the whole time for no reason. Disappointing but cool See more V4VENDETTA P @RT12725828 Oct 2, 2026 Oh my word, I sill don't know this rating works. Love this FF. See more Cinema S @cinema_sensei Sep 29, 2026 I expected a generic found-footage movie, but the sheer claustrophobia of those tight catacomb tunnels completely won me over. Blending alchemy, mythology, and psychological guilt made the descent feel genuinely unsettling rather than just loud. The shaky camera gets a little dizzying during the climax, but the creepy atmosphere and clever premise make it way better than most horror entries from that era. It's one of the better found footage movies out there. The story is engaging and different. Scarlett is an archaeologist hunting for the Philosopher's Stone in the catacombs of Paris. I'm a big adventure movie fan, so adventure plus horror is perfect for me. I like that they explain the lore early because they're shooting a documentary, so it works. The third act is utterly insane, with memorable moments and visuals. It has the claustrophobic feeling of The Descent, and I love the deeper meaning behind the title. Hell is depicted simply, forcing you to face your fears and trauma. Scarlett is a badass. It has the usual shaky cam, but this movie is scary and engaging. There's a stretch without many scares, but the story kept me invested. Without a good story, what's the point? The underground element was very claustrophobic, uncomfortable and skin crawling. If you hate dark, enclosed places this is true horror Great flick! See more Read all reviews
