Alec B @Alec97 Apr 9 Obligatory praise for the cinematography and performances. Beyond the social messaging, I think there's something timeless about the way it explores how easily communities fall into the trap of believing that the way things are now is how they will always be. The war will last forever, our bigotry will always be accepted, no one will ever visit our town, no one will ever find out what we did, the power structure will never change. They also subconsciously sense that this status quo is doomed, but fear the uncertainty of what comes next. This is why everyone initially resists any challenge to the corrupt establishment. Even if Tracy never arrived on that train (heralding the end of the war and the return of the rule of law) something would eventually break, even if they all "get away with it", change always comes.
