Critics Consensus

Though Blade II offers more of what worked in the original, its plot and character development appear to have been left on the cutting room floor.

There's no script to speak of, but del Toro devises every battle to wow even the most jaded martial-arts mavens; the dissolutions and implosions are beautiful. Go to Full Review Alexander Walker London Evening Standard Jul 14, 2015
It is directed by Guillermo del Toro: by "directed" I simply mean he turned his camerawork over to the computer graphics surgeons who cut, slice, dice and vivisect the material to mount a gross eyeassault of CG sequences. Go to Full Review Jack Mathews New York Daily News Jul 14, 2015

Del Toro is a stylish horrormeister, and he has created an evocative, foreboding atmosphere. But only a fan of this kind of mayhem could find a way into the story. And only a critic, sworn to serve, could stick it out to the end. Go to Full Review John Wilmes The Ringer Mar 23, 2022
Twenty years ago, Wesley Snipes and Guillermo del Toro paved the way for everything from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to ‘Twilight’... Go to Full Review Matt Patches Polygon Oct 20, 2021
It's a movie with real stakes - and not just the ones Blade throws through vampiric hearts. Go to Full Review Matt Goldberg Collider Oct 18, 2018
Blade II is an incredibly upbeat picture, and rather than focus on Blade's loneliness or how he's humanity's protector and yet can never truly be one of them, del Toro gleefully jumps into the action scenes. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Eddie Z @RT04687948 Aug 27, 2026 I expected WAY more from Del Toro. See more Mickey B @Mickerdoo Aug 15, 2026 Great fights, timelessly fun effects, spooky creatures, gnarly music and Snipes oozing cool. Phenomenal sequel. Underutilized Yen. See more Daniel L @Hotchopeppa Jul 29, 2026 My least favourite of the trilogy. The concept was pretty cool but it was badly executed and badly written. Working with the vampires was a cool idea but the Blood Pack end up being fairly useless and died far too easily. Also where the first movie was dark and gritty this one felt more PG 13 and more Marvel, even though it was still quite violent. The red cape was very gay. Still entertaining but did not live up to what it could have been. See more Jaycen D @JDtheGoat Jul 14, 2026 To me this movie is genuinely on the exact same level as the first film. See more Ben W @Username618 Jun 30, 2026 Really can't remember.
